Case study

WhooshMail

Shirts by Mike project screenshot My final Techdegree project was to design two different user flows for a fictional email marketing web application called WhooshMail. The task was to create a user friendly campaign building experience for two user roles: Administrative and Basic.

Problem

WhooshMail wants provide and email marketing platform to small business owners; a user friendly alternative that would compete with Mailchimp, Constant Contact, and MailerLite as a simple option with very intuitive features.

Audience

For this project the audience is split in two; an Administrative user and a Basic user.

Solution

Research

My research began by scrutinizing three main competitors --Mailchimp, Constant Contact, and MailerLite-- then taking note of each of their features, pros, and cons.

Mailchimp

My research began by scrutinizing three main competitors --Mailchimp, Constant Contact, and MailerLite-- then taking note of each of their features, pros, and cons.

Constant contact

Constant Contact offers most of the same features as MailChimp but without the benefit of intuitive navigation. They also hav a more corporate presence in contrast to both other competitors which could be a barrier to a small business.

Mailerlite

MailerLite is uncomplicated and intuitive to navigate. Their features are straighforward, easy to find, and they plainly offer all necessary basic tools.

Learnings

I learned a lot about considering every necessary connection in a prototype. Making sure every clickable element had a path forward and backward helped me really think about what the user might find helpful in a design. I also learned how great an impact simple design considerations can make on a high fidelity mock-up looking complete.
